So how has your travel year shaped up so far? A year to remember, packed with new travel experiences? Or one to forget? Or perhaps you just feel that with a bit more planning and preparation you could squeeze more travel from your calendar.
As a travel planner, I’m always looking to squeeze every last drop out of our free time. As we’re on a budget, I plan ahead to make sure we do as much as we can, but also because, (and here’s the real gem), if you book early, there is more availability and you get cheaper seats plus the chance to budget ahead for your trip. There’s nothing worse than deciding where to go and it’s sold out or too expensive. Sound familiar?
But how to start? Here’s my simple guide to getting yourself ready to plan 2018 like a pro.
Kikki.k are to planners, what a pumpkin is to Halloween. Essential. Yes, they have beautiful gifts that ooze style and luxury, yes, they have every piece of stationery that your daughter could ever dream of, yes, they also have vision boards, inspiration kits, life books, journals, diaries and pens. But even better, all of their fabulous products are so stylish and sophisticated, it’s as if Coco Chanel herself, has waved her fashionista wand over a stationery shop and turned it into something unique, elegant and to be savoured. The team at Kikki.k have nailed in-store customer experience, it really is a treat to linger in their stores. Products can be monogrammed in a choice of gold, silver, rose gold, white or black, perfect for a personal touch.
Second off, you need to buy two essentials – the Kikki.k 2018 Yearly Planner and the Kikki.k Life Little Stickers Pack. You are now armed with the basics for planning next year. Mark up family birthdays using the stickers, Valentines, Bank Holidays, special occasions, festivals and school holidays and you’ll have an quickly have an overview of what the structure of next year looks like. Hang the planner on a hook on the wall where you can see it every day.
You can then indulge yourself in researching all the lovely things you’d like to arrange. Once you’ve got firm ideas, try and book as early as you can. How about really getting the most from the Bank Holiday weekends next year, or making sure you get a table at restaurants that are so popular, you have to book months ahead.
Here’s an interesting article on why you should book your 2018 holiday as early as possible, and take advantage of low cost options such as EasyJet or Norwegian who have launched fares through to Autumn next year. And if you’re planning a staycation in 2018, Rural Retreats and Sawdays have some amazing places to stay, but they do get booked quickly! Use the National Trust and Visit Britain for inspiration on what’s on in the UK next year.
Make sure you don’t just concentrate on the first half of the year, as its great to have an evenly planned year so you have lots of things to look forward to throughout 2018.
And if you’d like more purpose and structure in your life for next year, I love this Life Plan Book from Kikki.k. It’s written by Shannah Kennedy who is a leading Australian life coach who motivates and inspires others to turn their dreams for their lives, careers and business into reality. You can dip in and out of chapters, picking out the bits that most help or interest you, I found it very thought provoking and I’m going to try work through some of the exercises.
